A global leader in digital security products e.g. antivirus software and internet security services, Avast are one of the latest names to join Thrustmaster Virtual GP for season three. With over 400 million users, the antivirus software company will back Petr Zoubek for this season. He’s very experienced and on his day can be very quick.
Virtual GP is a platform for virtual racing and the goal is to not just offer an exciting race for the drivers, but also to offer fans exciting live coverage done by a professional production company. Being a single seater championship, the Thrustmaster Virtual GP series is significant because it has a lineup of 12 drivers who all race together in one place, with the studio being located in Prague, Czech Republic. However Virtual GP are also planning to host online championships and events for racing drivers around the world.
#2 Petr Zoubek
Although he is a rookie for Virtual GP’s third season, Zoubek has some experience in simulator racing. He’s well known in the Czech racing community and has had some success on rFactor having started racing from a young age on games such as F1 2000.
He was the fastest newcomer in qualifying for season three and claims that racing is in his blood. Aside from virtual racing he likes to race in the real world too, by participating in karting. He managed to win a team championship in 2013 and meanwhile in the online world he has won the online ADAC GT Masters virtual championship. He says that racing is his hobby, but most of his time he is somewhere filming music videos for singers.
How did you find out about Virtual GP?
“I heard about the Virtual GP project for the first time from my friend Michal Šmídl two years ago, when it all started. He has been trying to convince me to join it for a long time and now I’m finally here (laughs). ”
What kind of achievements do you have in a world of virtual racing?
“I think probably my biggest achievement would be a win in an F1-class race in one of the best rFactor leagues at the time called Virtual-racer.eu, also known as F1Liga.com, which also made its own LMT modes, those that are involved in virtual racing know. I also like to remember the ADAC GT Masters championship at Max Power League which I think was the best championship I have ever participated in and I won a championship by a close margin. “
Are you looking forward to your first season? Do you have any goals?
“I’m here mostly because the quality of Czech and Slovak racing leagues has dropped but it is still a big hobby of mine and I haven’t raced for some time already. I don’t have any goals; the Assetto Corsa simulator is a big unknown for me and I don’t know the car as well. I’ve only done a couple of miles. So, this championship is a big challenge for me and since I’m not afraid of challenges, I’m looking forward to it!”
